Location of the Express Way

It starts near Qayum Abad at the interchange of Karachi Port Trust. It is located mainly along the river of Malir. This Malir Highway will be built on 9 kilometers and it will connect Korangi with M-9 Motorway. If we look at the map of the Malir Express Way then it will be the shortest way of reaching the Motorway from Defense. As there is no road near and along the bank of the Malir River, Malir Highway is going to be the only way of transportation across the Malir River.

Salient Features of the Express Way

This Express Way is going to have a total of 21 Toll Plazas, 6 weighbridges and 5 normal bridges, it will have almost 8 underpasses and almost 3 flyovers, it is going to be a 4-lane road, and important interchanges on this expressway will be:

• Korangi InterChange

• Shahrah e Faisal’s InterChange at N-5

• M-9, Karachi-Hyderabad Motorway InterChange

The total estimated time of its completion is 36 months and it is expected that the Malir Express Way will reach its completion in this duration of time.

Malir Express Way’s Background

As the rate of population is increasing in the city of Karachi, the traffic jams are getting even worse. Because there is no such highway that connects the center of the city with the outside, it was pretty difficult to travel. We all know that Karachi has 2 main seaports and it was very difficult to transport the goods that are to be exported/imported.

By looking at the difficulties of locals and officials as well, this project was presented and it was inaugurated in the December of 2020.

How Will it Expend the City?

When the Highway will be completed and it will get in use, the land which lies around it will get importance and its value will raise automatically. New projects will start in the nearby areas. For instance, new housing schemes and new housing societies will start to develop in those areas. This will lead to the urbanization of the land. Another Example is that different service stations will be built by different businesses to provide basic facilities for travelers. All of this will act as a helping hand in the urbanization and expansion of the city that is much required. If Karachi kept on expanding like this, then it is predicted that in 2030 it will be considered as one of the world’s largest cities.
